Wisconsin Man Arrested for Drunk Driving Twice in Two Hours

In 2006, 42 percent of all traffic-related fatalities in Wisconsin were the result of drunk driving. The laws in the state still don’t recognize a fourth DUI conviction as a felony offense. In an effort to bring attention to this crucial issue, and to urge lawmakers to move toward ignition interlock legislation, MADD Wisconsin has posted a petition in support of strengthening the Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving across the state.

Ohio Man Faces 13th Drunk Driving Charge

Jeffrey Moore has 12 prior DUI convictions and his license was suspended for life in 1995.

Senate Bill 17 is geared toward tougher enforcement and penalties against drunk drivers. The legislation would require all of Ohio’s convicted drunk drivers to have an ignition interlock device installed into their vehicles.

West Virginia Governor Signs Critical Anti-Drunk Driving Law

In West Virginia in 2006, 129 people were killed and 2,600 injured by a drunken driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher.

Last week, MADD joined West Virginia governor Joe Manchin at a ceremony for the signing of a landmark law that makes huge strides in saving lives and keeping drunk drivers off the roads.

The law includes a charge of aggravated DUI for those with a BAC at .15 or higher and requires ignition interlocks for all aggravated drunk driving offenders. The law also gives first-time offenders the option of a 90-day license revocation or a 15-day revocation if they opt for four months with ignition interlock.
